Resurrection

The day before yesterday I saw a rather large yellow butterfly dancing around me while I was taking a walk. I stopped to watch it flutter about, landing just a few feet from me on the ground. Looking at him, I thought how beautiful he was and how rare it is to even see butterflies anymore, then he took flight again, circling around me until eventually disappearing into the nearby woods.

Certainly seeing a yellow butterfly isn’t an usual event, even with all the pesticides we can still manage to see one now and again, but for some reason this one seemed special. I mentioned to my son that I had seen this beautiful yellow butterfly earlier in the day and he stopped short, looked at me a bit surprised and said he too had seen one just a few hours ago when walking a few miles from here. Strange, we both agreed, but again not totally out of the ordinary.

I just couldn’t get this little beauty out of my mind so I decided yesterday after praying my rosary that I would open my bible and see if the Lord had anything special to say to me. This is not unusual for me to do, but today I thought I would just see if my little visitor had any special meaning. As many probably know the butterfly in Christian tradition represents the Resurrection. This is because of the transformation the butterfly takes from caterpillar to butterfly.

Closing my eyes I said a prayer and opened my bible not knowing where it would be. 1 Corinthians Chapter 15, The Resurrection. “Oh wow” I thought. Then I read slowly through St. Pauls first letter to the Corinthians to see what the Lord was wanting me to know.

The message I took away from this is Jesus is Risen and He will indeed make all things new! I’ve been feeling called to write but I’m a hopeless procrastinator. God has been so good to me and showered me with more Grace than I deserve. It is my responsibility as a believer to be a witness and to not ignore His call for my help anymore.

1 Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be firm, steadfast, always fully devoted to the word of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”
